FOOTBALL! It’s one of my favorite words, especially when it comes to college sports. The thing that I love about Alabama is that so many different people either hail from different alma maters or they just love different schools for whatever reason. If you go to a sports bar to watch a game, there’s always some healthy competition. ![]()
So when it comes to gameday Saturday, who are you yelling for?

Do You Still Wear White After Labor Day?
September 7, 2010 by akemp

Are you among the huge group of people that think wearing white after Labor Day is taboo? If you are, do you even know why you started following that rule, or why it exists in the first place? Don’t worry, you’re not alone; even the most prominent researchers aren’t exactly sure why. Logical speculations have arisen saying that it’s linked to the weather, the culture, the time period, and many other things, but the one constant in them all is the fashion industry.
There are rules, and there are rules that are made to be broken. In my honest opinion, this is one of them, even though it’s not really a “rule”. Back in the day, white was seen as a “leisurely” color. (Hence the white party in the Hamptons). The first Monday of September, Labor Day, officially marked the end of the summer for them, and everyone would return to work and school around that time, and that also meant donning the drab and darker colors of fall. If you look back at old photos from around the 20’s and 30’s, you’ll see that many people in the big cities work darker clothing because they were rushing back and forth to work. And this is only ONE speculation.
What are yours? Do you follow this rule, or do you tend to wear white until the weather tells you not to?

A Wise Choice: Investing in Renter’s Insurance

When it come to investing in renter’s insurance, it doesn’t take long to find the right quote for you. What does take a good minute is trying to replace what you may have lost due to a natural disaster, petty theft, or whatever else may come your way.
If you have wisely invested in renter’s insurance, you don’t have much to worry about. Many people don’t take advantage of renter’s insurance because of a common myth: the cost. Renter’s insurance is surprisingly inexpensive. For a small fee a month, normally between $10 and $20, you can save thousands of dollars in case you have to replace your belongings. In all honesty, I’d much rather pay about $10 a month than to pay over $200 to replace a lost television or over $500 for a new laptop.
Renter’s insurance also covers liability for anything you’re found negligent to have caused an accident or a fire. Basic renters insurance, may run you about $100 a year. In my opinion, that’s a small price to pay for piece of mind and the reassurance of securing your precious belongings. This video shows what happens when people choose not to invest.
How do you get renter’s insurance? National insurance sites like State Farm and All State all carry policies. You can also visit the Bridgewater Apartments leasing office, and they’ll be happy to get you on your way to a higher piece of mind in no time.

Do You Remember the Time?

As tomorrow marks the one year anniversary of the loss of a musical icon, you can sure that there will be multiple tributes and televised broadcasts that in some way involve the King of Pop.
He’s already been honored this week with one historic revelation: he was inducted into the Apollo Legends Hall of Fame. Aretha Franklin was also inducted. This is such a great honor for a great man; I’m pretty sure that he would have been inducted into the hall of fame if he were still around as well.
To get you into the spirit of the impending tributes, here’s one of my favorite Michael Jackson performances, “Smooth Criminal”. I will always remember being so excited when I first heard the song and believed he was speaking to me with the line “Annie, are you okay?”
What’s your favorite Michael Jackson memory?

You are on an island in the middle of a lake. The lake is in a remote part of the country and there has never been a bridge connecting the island to the mainland.
Every day a tractor and wagon gives hay rides around the island. Puzzled as to how the tractor had gotten onto the island, you ask around and find out that the tractor was not transported to the island by boat or by air. Nor was it built on the island.
Explain how the tractor got there?
If you can figure this one out, post your answer as a comment on the blog!

What do you do to motivate yourself? Do you have a certain speech you give yourself every morning? Do you stick post-it notes everywhere with motivation words on it? A friend of mine has taught her little girl to wake up everyday and say, “Am I still gorgeous?” Sure it may be a little vain, but at least no one can tell that girl that she’s not beautiful.
Just use some of little Jessica’s confidence when you wake up in the mornings. She likes everything about herself, do you?

It’s that season again where the hunt is on to find something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue. The only problem that many of us run into is what to get the happy couple.
Most wedding registries are WAY too expensive, (unless the couple registers at the very upscale Targét
), which makes it hard to find that perfect gift. Come on folks, one couple can only have so many toasters.
So what to get them? Well, Real Simple has a list of ideas that would make any couple smile. One in particular that I liked were recycled-felt pillows in customizable color combinations which are also available in block lettering. They are really nice and the perfect accent to their new home.
What great wedding gifts have you seen?

5 Phrases to Help Organize Your Life

“The early bird always gets the worm.” This little saying helps us remember to always be early and time. There are similar little sayings that are great for helping you to get and stay organized. Here are a few:
- “A home for everything and everything in its place”
- Designate a home for all your stuff. Then be sure that everything taken gets returned to its home.
- “Don’t put it down put it away”
- When you remove something from its home, the best thing to do when you’re done using it is to put it away.
- “File don’t pile”
- It’s very easy to get overwhelmed with paper. If you don’t need a piece of paper, get rid of it. If you do need a piece of paper, file it right now.
- “Quality over Quantity”
- Always remember to place an emphasis on quality over quantity. In other words it’s not important to have a lot of things, many of which you never use.
- “Find everything you need when you need it, Get everything done when it’s due”
- Being organized actually entails ‘finding everything you need when you need it, and getting everything done when it’s due.’ If you can master these two things, you are well on your way to being organized.
